If he does, the batshit-crazy wing of the GOP will completely push the moderates out of the national party.

And then the parties will have completely flipped their positions from a century ago, when the Democrats had a lock on the Old (racist) South and the Republicans pretty much won everywhere else. They'll go after Snowe and Collins and both senators will bolt the GOP.
