The Supreme Court issued a decision on Monday that gives Donald Trump the ability to proceed with his plans for construction of a new White House ballroom.

Trump’s plans for a White House ballroom have been an ongoing point of contention and legal action, with opponents arguing that Trump has no legal authority to pursue the project without congressional approval. In a 5-4 decision, the court granted the Trump administration’s request to block a lower court ruling that would have prevented work from being done on the ballroom.

They all knew that he didn't have congressional authority, but they relied on a technicality to let him go ahead.

The bottom line is that the Spremes hauled out their rubber stamp and let Trump do what he wants to do. They like to say that no man is above the law, but it's clear as glass that one man is.

Johnny Roberts and His Fascist Five Forget One Thing

Every tool they hand to Trump to expand his power, as they did yesterday in the Slaughter case, is a tool that a Democratic president can and will use. (At least for a little while.)

For example, expect that the next president will immediately fire the board of the FCC.

But this is what'll happen, Gentle Reader: Whoever gets fired will sue, it'll go to the Supreme Court. There, Johnny and his Fascist Trolls will say "oh, we got it wrong, presidents can't fire members of independent boards, we shouldn't have overturned Humprey's Executor." That'll happen with every case where they expanded Trump's powers.

Because all six of them are deeply, orally and ethically corrupt as fuck. If you have any doubt, note that they were really eager to limit Biden's power but they do what they can to expand Trump's. They are nothing but naked partisans in black robes.

Budgetary Goal for FY 2027

Two Cases Show How Racist and Evil the Roberts Court is

In 2006, the Court, in Purcell v. Gonzales, held that election changes should not be made just before a vote, to avoid confusing voters. But in the aftermath of the Callais case, the majority of Roberts' Calvinball Court has been tripping over themselves to allow the Confederate states to redo their congressional districts mere days before the primaries and, in the case of Louisiana, while voting had already begun.

The takeaway is this: Whatever the Fascist Six on the Court can do to promote white districts and eliminate majority-Black districts, they will do. The Klan Six may believe that the Voting Rights Act was obsolete, but every action taken by the states of the Old Confederacy since Callais have shown that the VRA is as necessary today as it was in 1965.

The South Proves Why the Voting Rights Act Existed

The modern Confederacy is moving as fast as it can to erase majority Black congressional districts. They are doing exactly the same shit that caused Congress to enact the Voting Rights Act and reauthorize it time and time again.

The Worst Chief Justice in American History keeps saying his court only calls balls and strikes based on the Constitution. That is a bald-faced lie and even they know it. The Supreme Court is a malign political force and it needs to be counteracted like any other such entity.

As has has been pointed out elsewhere, the lower courts in the tariff cases issued injunctions against Trump's tariffs. Those injections were sustained by the appellate courts.

The Supremes could have what the injections stand while the case was ordered. Instead, they overturned the injunctions. They would've been no issue about refunds if sthe justices had done their fucking job in the first place.

But no. Half of the conservatives were gutless weasels who didn't want to stand up to Trump until it was absolutely unavoidable.

Trump's On-Air Fit

I watched as much of his remarks as I could stand.

Reporting is that Republicans in Congress are privately relieved that the Supreme Court struck down Trump's tariffs.

Well, fuck them, too. They are gutless cowards, every last one of them. They're hiding behind the black robes of theSupreme Court, instead of standing up and doing their fucking jobs. as the superior branch of government that they are supposed to be (because they're in Article I of the Constitution).

Trump Loses Bigly, For Once

The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s far-reaching global tariffs on Friday, handing him a significant loss on an issue crucial to his economic agenda.

The 6-3 decision centers on the tariffs Trump unilaterally imposed under an emergency powers law, including the sweeping “reciprocal” tariffs levied on nearly every other country.

It’s the first major piece of Trump’s broad agenda to come squarely before the nation’s highest court, which he helped shape with the appointments of three conservative jurists in his first term.

The majority found that the Constitution “very clearly” gives Congress the power to impose taxes, which include tariffs. “The Framers did not vest any part of the taxing power in the Executive Branch,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote.

Of course, the three hard-core fascists (Thomas, Alito, Kavanaugh) wanted to continue prostrating the Constitution to Trump. But this time, they lost. The decision, concurrences and dissents run to something like 170 PDF pages, and I am not about to read all of that shit for free.

No doubt that Trump and his allies are pitching fits right now.

Whether refunds will now issue (over $100 billion) is an open question. And a bit of global trade has evolved so that, where possible, some goods are avoiding the American market. Raw/medium level materials are going to factories outside of the US so they don't get hit with Trump's taxes. That probably won't change for years. Trump has done lasting damage to the American economy, and screw all of those who bought into his bullshit. You know who you are.

Another Kavanaugh Stop of a Brown Person

A woman who’s a U.S. citizen needed medical help Thursday, Jan. 29, after federal agents pulled her from her car after demanding to see her “papers,” one of the state’s largest unions said Saturday.

At around 11 a.m. Thursday, Maria was driving alone to take care of a rent payment and buy a cake for her grandson when she noticed she was being followed for several blocks by an unmarked vehicle that did not have a license plate, SEIU’s statement said.

Maria had been driving around northeast Salem, according to Latinos Unidos Siempre on social media.

The vehicle pulled in front of her and stopped, while another parked behind her. Three men and a woman exited the vehicles wearing vests saying “police,” and one “banged on her window, demanding that she show them “papers.” SEIU said.

“When Maria did not immediately respond, the agents shattered her car window, forcibly removed her from the vehicle and threw her to the ground, causing numerous injuries,” the statement said.

As she was on the ground, the agents dumped out her purse, found her U.S. passport and left the scene, according to SEIU.

That is a classic Kavanaugh Stop: Jerk up a nonwhite person, abuse thm a bit and then depart.

Meanwhile, ICE harassed a woman whose only offense was observing them. They jumped out of their rental SUV in a move that resembled a carjacking and then grabbed her, when she was only exercising her Constitutional rights. If you look at the video in the story, you will see that one of those pseudo-cops steps in front of her car, presumably to try and get justification to murder another American citizen.

To quote one of the commenters here:

When you recruit for brutality, and your pool of recruits are all the cops that are one step from being tossed out of their police force by a review board, and your push to increase your forces causes you to lower your standards and rush the pre employment investigation, can you expect any different outcome?

Add in telling your officers that they are unaccountable for their actions and letting them hide their faces and wear no identifying marks or numbers and this is what you get.

Courts Step Up

The Rule of Law is still holding:

The chief federal judge in Minnesota says the Trump administration has failed to comply with orders to hold hearings for detained immigrants and ordered the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to appear before him Friday to explain why he shouldn’t be held in contempt.

In an order dated Monday, Chief Judge Patrick J. Schiltz said Todd Lyons, the acting director of ICE, must appear personally in court. Schlitz took the administration to task over its handling of bond hearings for immigrants it has detained.

“This Court has been extremely patient with respondents, even though respondents decided to send thousands of agents to Minnesota to detain aliens without making any provision for dealing with the hundreds of habeas petitions and other lawsuits that were sure to result,” the judge wrote.

Now it is up to the Senate and the Republicans to step up. At least one Republican is fleeing.

The Kavanaugh Stop: That Took Three Months

From the coining of the term "Kavanaugh Stop" for when the goons at CBP/ICE grab someone off the street because they look brown enough to his having butthurt over it.

Seems That There Are Gradations of Fascists on the Supremes

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to allow the Trump administration to deploy National Guard troops in the Chicago area to support its immigration crackdown, a significant defeat for the president’s efforts to send troops to U.S. cities.

The justices declined the Republican administration’s emergency request to overturn a ruling by U.S. District Judge April Perry that had blocked the deployment of troops. An appeals court also had refused to step in. The Supreme Court took more than two months to act.

Three justices, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch, publicly dissented.

That gives us an idea who the True Nazis are on he Court.

And it's interesting that either the Court is signalling that they won't always roll over for Trump or they are trying to fool us into thinking that.

Racial and Ethnic Profiling is OK, As Long as White People Aren't the Target (plus a cartoon)

That's one of the big lessons from the Six Fascists on the Supreme Court who permitted ICE to use ethnic profiling.

The other point is that the Six Supremes are indeed playing Calivinball-- they're rewriting the rules so Trump always wins.

So far, the lower courts are't going along. They're applying the law the way that they're supposed to and making the Administration fight each case before the Seig Heil Six.

John Roberts has continued along his path to being the most feckless and reckless Chief Justice since signatures were applied to the final draft of the Constitution. He's pretty much already there, much to the relief of the spirits of Roger Taney and Melville Fuller.

Evil and the Machinery Thereof

In shelters across New York, migrant children sit in front of computer and TV screens, appearing virtually in real court proceedings. They swivel in chairs, walk in circles and play with their hair — while immigration judges address them on the screens in front of them.

“The reason we’re here is because the government of the United States wants you to leave the United States,” Judge Ubaid ul-Haq, presiding from a courtroom on Varick Street, told a group of about a dozen children on a recent morning on Webex.

“It’s my job to figure out if you have to leave,” ul-Haq continued. “It’s also my job to figure out if you should stay.”

The parties included a 7-year-old boy, wearing a shirt emblazoned with a pizza cartoon, who spun a toy windmill while the judge spoke. There was an 8-year-old girl and her 4-year-old sister, in a tie-dye shirt, who squeezed a pink plushy toy and stuffed it into her sleeve. None of the children were accompanied by parents or attorneys, only shelter workers who helped them log on to the hearing.

If you are any part of this, of running very young children through legal proceedings without them having the benefit of an attorney, then know this: You are not only helping to run a machine of evil, you are not ony participaing in evil, you are evil.

And if you can sleep at night, know this: Your soul is damned.
