Orange Felon Can't Tell Me What to Do

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

A family emergency just blew up. It's one of those bad "unexpected but anticipated" ones. Some of the routine features are already queued up, others, not so much.

Both blogging and comment moderation may be irregular for awhile.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Family matters will limit my time here for awhile. Comment moderation will be slow. Regularly-scheduled features are queued.

Later, all.

Some Changes (Updated)

The Politics & Shit blogroll has become unmanageable. As in I can't delete or add things to it.

Everything has been migrated to two new blogrolls and the old one has been trashed. By "everything", I mean everything that has been updated in the last two years.

I thought about going through all of the others and deleting really old stuff, but since they are ordered by last update, there's not much of a point unless I feel like doing stuff that doesn't need to be done.

Nice

I was walking into the public library this morning and heard the noise of an airplane that I couldn't identify by sound. Then it came over the tree lime and flew over the library in about 1000' AGL.

it was a Skymaster, a Cessna 337. Those airplanes have the reputation of being serious maintenance, hogs, between the landing gear and the rear engine.those airplanes have the reputation of being serious maintenance, hogs, between the landing gear and the rear engine.

but there is something about them that appeals to me. I wish I could have flown one.

but those days are gone, and there is no point in dwelling on it.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Family matters for a couple of days, y'all. Comment moderation will be a slow thing. Read a newspaper. A real one, printd on chemically-processed wood fibers.

Well, Today Kinda Sucks

I've managed to acquire both a dose of poison ivy and a sunburn. They're not overlapping, but they are, in a spot, close to one another. The sunburn came from doing some lawn reseeding, the poison Ivy, maybe from clearing some vines that were beginning to strangle a tree.

Of course this happens on a holiday weekend. I'm hoping that the OTC stuff works OK, because I'd rather not have to make yet another trip to the ER. I've made a few in the last twelve months as it is (one from my own stupidity).

But the cookout is off. I don't think standing/sitting around outside is a wise idea, for the moment.

Reciprocal Blogroll

I'm going through that section and pruning out those who aren't reciprocal.

But if you've blogrolled me and you're not in any of my blogrolls, let me know, so I can fix that.

Caveat: If you're one of the Banhammer Boys, forget about it.

Also, if your blog is really old, please post something. Anything will do. Otherwise, it'll go, too.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'll be off doing my civic duty tomorrow, if not longer. Blogging and comment moderation may both be haphazard.

UPDATE: I got to the courthouse to find out that jury selection was canceled. They were supposed to send out text notifications of that the afternoon before, but those fell through the cracks.

Today Sucks

I've been spending much of the day, so far, in the basement with a wet – dry shop vac, sucking up water from the recent rains.

Some interesting shit about the PRC's military has come out. More later.

FFS

Some stuff has disappeared from the blogrolls. I don't recall deleting them.

If you think your blog should be listed and it's not, drop me a line.

A Day Without a Lot of News

I read the morning paper. I watched the evening news. I avoided everything else, went for a hike in the woods. Highly recommended.

ABC World News Tonight reported that a Boston woman was killed in the Bahamas by a shark on vacation. I didn't know sharks took vacations.

Shit's going on. I expect to be out of action for a day or two.

So whatever's going on, feel free to camp in the comments section.

Don't Tell Me That Revolvers Can't Malfunction

I shot an extended match the other day. I tried to shoot a Model 686, which kept jamming up with both lower-powered .357s and with classic .38s. On one stage, I went through a lot of speedloaders and spent the scoring time retrieving live rounds. The two stages where I tried to shoot the 686 were so screwed up that the only reason I didn't place dead last was that a couple guys got DQ'd.

Fortunately, I brought a backup gun: A Model 66. Which ran fine.

A serious SME told me that the L-frames were designed with a lot tighter tolerances than the K-frames. He went over my gun to ensure that every speck of carbon was removed, but the gun still malfunctioned. I'll go over it again, but if I can't get it to function, it'll go to a gunsmith.

Blogiversary Oops

Tam pointed out recently that she missed her blogiversary and that her blog is old enough to vote.

I missed mine, as well, and this blog is old enough to drive.

There's an entry that is purportedly old enough for an AARP card, but that's an artifact to test how far back that I could predate an entry.

The Google Blogger Spam Filter Has Gotten Weird

I do check it every day or so. And I thought it was a little wonky.

But today, it has gotten weird. There are nine comments in it, dating from 2010 to 2020. Four of them are mine. Two are from a dead guy. All but one are one-word comments, such as "nice" or "indeed" or "agreed".
