Like This is a Surprise; CIA Edition

Bush doesn't recall being told of the CIA tapes.

Yeah, sure he doesn't remember. Like he didn't recall being told of Iran's discontinuing its nuclear weapons program. Like he didn't remember getting briefed on bin Ladin's determination to attack the US. Like he's forgotten promising to fire anyone involved in leaking Plame's identity.

But then again, George Bush is sort of like Nixon, except that Bush is just as corrupt, about half as paranoid and a tenth as smart as the Ol' Trickster. And just like Nixon at the end, only the die-hard party loyalists are buying his brand of crap.

The claim that they "destroyed the tapes to protect the identities of CIA agents" is just so much bullshit. I gather the White House has never seen a news story where the face of someone was obscured by pixelating it or just blanking the face out? By floating that claim, the CIA and the White House is testing to see how stupid and gullible people really are.

No, the tapes were destroyed (if they were truly destroyed) because of what the tapes contained, namely, proof of the commission of crimes by CIA interrogators. Not legal methods of interrogation, but torture. Proof that when Bush and his co-conspirators proclaimed repeatedly that "the US does not torture", that he was lying.

The question is now: Do we have the guts to clean up our own mess? Or are we going to try and sweep it under the rug until a foreign court drags this stinking, rotting corpse out for all to see?
