Messing With Texas

A Florida activist has found a unique way to protest a new Texas law requiring public schools to display signs with the national motto. Chaz Stevens, founder of the Mount Jab Church of Mars—a group in Boca Raton, Fla., that advocates for the separation of church and state—launched a GoFundMe campaign Sunday to send hundreds of "In God We Trust" signs written in Arabic to the Lone Star State.

It's funny, but apparently the State Lege in Texas has solved all of the problems with the state's electrical grid that they can afford to spend time on this nonsense.

I wonder if it's too late to sell the goddamned state to the Mexicans.

Go Fund Me goal now $250,000 due to response and expected need to lawyer up. Law’s writer (Bryan Hughes,R-Redneck) is stating the Arabic signs don’t meet the SB 797’s requirements, I assume because the law specifies “In God We Trust”…but as Texas has no English as the Official Language Law, I think they’ll get to display the signs. As a lawyer, Hughes should know better, but be8ng a lawyer doesn’t make you a good one.

Ah yes, Texas. There's the apparently apocryphal line usually attributed long time ago to Texas Governor "Ma" Ferguson: "If the King's English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it's good enough for the children of Texas!". She was refusing to allow education to be taught in Spanish for the Hispanic children of the state.

If, for some benighted reason, you wish to stay informed about the enduring lunacy of TX, I highly recommend the Texas Observer, carrying on the proud legacy of Molly Ivins. $1/year

Spud, then no deal. I want the fun if seeing Rafael T. Cruz eligible for a passport from a fourth country.

I'm kind of with Ten Bears on just the "giving back" Texas to Mexico. But I don't think Mexico WANTS Texas back. They'd rather have California.
