First off, these are the people who are supporting Roman ("It's Cool to Drug and Rape a Child") Polanski. Up to you, but I'd be disinclined to let them within a mile of any child that I was responsible for. (H/T)
Second, the lawyer for the alleged blackmailer of David Letterman is trotting out the Stupidity Defense: It cannot be blackmail because no blackmailer would be stupid enough to take a check.
Two comments on that: First off, criminals are largely stupid people. If most of them had any brains, they wouldn't be criminals. Second off, if you're going to try and float the "he took a check, fer Crissakes" line, you then have to posit a reason as to why Letterman would have wanted to pay this guy two million smackers.

No surprise to see Woody Allen's name at the top of that list. I've heard grumbling about one of aviation's hollywood friends, Harrison Ford also being rather supportive. Ford's name is not on the list though.
I can understand forgiveness 30 years after an offense if Polanski had not run, evading justice all this time. At this point, it seems the attitude is to minimize the offense and shrug it off. This is not acceptable. He should stand trial somehow.
The Creep pled guilty to statutory rape. The only trials he has coming to him are on the Federal and California charges of fleeing.
