GOP Whining and the Cowardice of Palin

In watching how the GOP has been whining about the news coverage and, especially, how they have been keeping Sarah Palin under wraps, you have to wonder what they are so afraid of?

If Palin is so tough, if she is so ready to be the Vice President, then how in the hell is she going to be able to deal with the Russians and the Iranians and the Chinese if she cannot deal with tough questions from reporters?

You want some proof? Read this:

Rick Davis, campaign manager for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., just told Fox News Channel's Chris Wallace that McCain running mate Gov. Sarah Palin won't subject herself to any tough questions from reporters "until the point in time when she'll be treated with respect and deference."

What the McCain Campaign wants is that reporters ask Palin the sort of hard-hard hitting questions that a reporter from Izvestia would have asked of Leonid Brezhnev.

Reporters are not supposed to treat any political figures with "deference." Our democracy depends on reporters asking tough, difficult questions, questions politicians would rather not answer. But let's face it: Republicans are not in favor of democracy, if that means anything other than a one-party GOP state. Their idea of a hard question is asking a Republican "what is your favorite vegetable" (and they are not supposed to answer "George W. Bush").

Democrats may not be much better, but at least Joe Biden was out on the Sunday talk shows. Last week, Barack Obama even faced Bill O'Reilly.

What is Sarah Palin afraid of?

What are the Republicans afraid of?
