The McCain Campaign Strategy

McCain has surrendered any claim he ever had towards being an honorable man. As Paul Krugman points out in his column today, McCain's strategy is to lie about everything and to lie so fast and so furious that the Obama campaign can do little more than issue denials.

I was going to blog about "truthiness" and argue that McCain is saying things that he feels are true or he wishes were true without regard for whether or not they were really true. But Krugman is right, I fear. McCain's campaign has no regard for "truth" or "honor," it is a despicable, dishonest and truly disgusting campaign. McCain is a dishonorable man.

McCain has not only fully embraced the "Big Lie" technique of Joseph Goebbels, he is surrounding the big lie with the Karl Rove technique of thousands of little lies.

The real question is whether the voters are stupid enough to fall for it again. I am not terribly optimistic.

I'm worried that in an effort to play to the middle, swing voter who claims to hate the negative campaign, the Obama campaign is going to take the high road to defeat.

People say they hate the negative campaigning because they think it's appropriate to dislike it.

I think it works because voters view that nice way of campaigning as weakness.
