Bush Cannot Comprehend the Inevitable

Only a moron could have not foreseen this: Pakistan Army troops opened fire at U.S. helicopters that were crossing over into Pakistani airspace.

Did those stupid drones in the West Wing not think that this was going to happen? There is not a nation on the planet that would say: "Gee, Dubya, if you want to attack into our territory, go ahead and do it." Even the French would fight back (if only for a little while). And that goes double once the word gets out of the "incursions," the other country is going to defend its honor.

Way to turn a pseudo-ally in the "War on Terror" into an enemy, O Tsar of the Baboons.

Why is it necessary to make a derogatory comment about the French? While, they were poorly led at the beginning of WW II and failed to defend their country very well, it is also true that many gave their lives to kick the Nazis out fighting in the Underground and there were a lot of taxi drivers who took troops to the lines in WW I to keep the Germans out of Paris that time. I wish you, of all people, wouldn't do that garbage.

First off, I suspect that the world would have ultimately have been a better place if the German had made it to Paris in 1914.

Second, the French were rather enthusiastic in cooperating with the Germans to send the Jews of France to the death camps.

Third, I don't like the French. I don't trust them. DeGaulle said that "nations don't have friends, they have interests" and I fully expect the French to betray everyone else if they see a micron's worth of advantage.

Reason enough for you?

The deal about nations, friends, and interests actually originated with a British opponent of Prime Minister Gladstone during the 1800's. Specifically, Lord Palmerston said this, ironically when talking about double-crossing the French who were a British ally at the time regarding French activities in Egypt (specifically, the Suez Canal, where he had a plan to bring Egypt into the British fold and kick the French out because the French having control over movement of British warships simply was not to be tolerated).

If in fact de Gaulle said this, he was saying it ironically. A British politician would have recognized the source of the statement and laughed. But that is Europe, where anti-intellectualism isn't a religion like it is here in the United States...
