Cabin Cleaners Will Be Shampooing a Lot of Seats in That Airplane

The hot section of an engine on a Qantas A-380 exploded soon after departure. In the photos, you can see that debris from the explosion was apparently blown through the wing.

Qantas has grounded its fleet of A-380s pending an investigation.

Judging from the size of those intakes, the engine might have swallowed a small plane without anyone noticing.

Glad I don't work on a ramp near those things.

Wonder what it looked like from the cabin when the engine hard parts blew through the top of the wing. Serious pucker.

WIth all the "incidents" that have been happening lately, from this to the two planes that lost parts of their skins, it appears al Qaeda doesn't have to dispatch bombs onto planes in order to down them. All they have to do is wait as our skin-flint airlines short maintenance more and more and the decrepit jets start disintegrating in mid-air all by themselves.

Wow. I was wondering if some folks at Boeing were crossing their fingers over this disaster for their competitor...but then one of their own 747-400s had to land because of big-bang sounds in an engine. Seems a lot of maintenance corner cutting must be going on...
