I had thought that "twitter" was a synonym for excited meaningless chatter, but no. Seems that it is a social networking site for people who cannot digest messages longer than 140 characters.
Gene Weinarten's column about it is funny. He does the "twitter" version of a famous speech at the end.
So anyway, today I was at the airport. I went there to check on the airplane after a recent storm and to fly it a little. As I tied it down afterwards, I saw something moving across the paved area of the tiedown pad. It was a woolly caterpillar and it was moving at the equivalent of a flat-out run across the pad. The tiedown pad is asphalt, the sun was out, and it must have felt to that caterpillar as though it was running across a desert. When it reached the grass, it slowed down to a relative crawl.
The cats are doing what they do. Jake is lying on a window shelf, watching the world go by. Gracie is snoozing and George is eating.

It would be entirely appropriate to shorten the site name to four letters...
I agree.
I liked the Twitter version of a classic novel that someone posted in the comments to that article:
MobyDk - Call me Ish. Weird capt chase big white whale. Ish lives! Capt dies.
