75 Years

The Second World War in Europe, the Middle East, the Atlantic Ocean and Africa ended on this day, 75 years ago. Most of Europe was left in ruins, as there had been hard fighting from the French Atlantic coast to the Volga river.

There would have been large commemorations, but thanks to this pandemic, those were called off. Which is too bad, as this may have been the last chance to have a significant number of participants in attendance.

By all appearances, we lost.

I disagree, but we would have lost if Trump was the president. He would have declared victory after the Battle of Midway and stopped the fight.

We won the battles, overall, but 75 years later we seem to have lost the war.

As a world and a country I can't see how we lost. We did win.
It was hard fought and the result was an improved though
imperfect world.

Now we have DrumpF, and any progress we can or did see is
slowly being erased or blame assigned to. Maybe it will be
referred to the darkening of the ages. Or maybe the
second great depression.

The greatest result of the Second World War was arguably the creation of Social Safety Nets in the West. It was part of the contract the Government felt they had with the people, but as Thatcher and Reagan oversaw the beginnings of dismantling that same safety net in the 70’s and 80’s, it has continued through today. This outbreak may be the straw that breaks that camels back and takes us back to a more compassionate model, or it may be the genesis of turbulence unlike any since the 60’s. The rich will fight to maintain their prerogatives and money, but if they fail to understand the gravity of the situation, it will simply morph into a actual revolution in the end. The question is, who (if anyone) will win...and if any will be left to enjoy the “results”.
