Poisoned water. Under the nonexistent enforcement of clean water laws during the Bush Administration, hundreds of thousands of violations of the clean water laws were reported to the EPA and went unpunished, with not so much as an admonishing letter being sent. In West Virginia, a state regulator who worked to stop coal companies from poisoning the water tables by pumping toxic waste into abandoned mines or by injecting the waste deep underground was fired at the behest of the coal companies.
Go read the article, though be forewarned, it is both long and depressing. The polluters are not just coal companies, though they have been among the most blatant offenders. You can go here to find the polluters in your area.
(Maybe the disciples of Ayn Rand and non-regulation can explain why companies do such things, why they willfully poison the water supplies. But they won't. They will turn the same blind eye towards this issue as did George W. Bush. )
The ones your girlfriends warned you about.
