Convicting the Loudmouths

A jury on Tuesday convicted two men of conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020, delivering swift verdicts in a plot that was broken up by the FBI and described as a rallying cry for a U.S. civil war by anti-government extremists.

One might remember back, then Chimpy's internal war on loudmouth Muslims was in full swing, the FBI had a practice of finding local loudmouths, egging them on, then charging them with terrorism for doing things that they arguably wouldn't have done without an FBI agent provocateur pretty much arranging the whole thing. It's what they do.

The counter-argument is that these guys are grown men who should have had the sense to rethink that they were doing instead of acting like a couple of lemmings. (Remember your mother would ask "if your friends jumped off a cliff, would you follow them?")

What the FBI does should always be judged by the facts of any particular case. They are not to be trusted, due to their record of fuckery, big-footing local cases, and inflationary self-importance going back ninety years.

Blubbering loudmouths is one thing. They can spew crap out all they want (see bloggers who lie). They're mostly full of shit anyway. It's when they start taking action is when they become a peril to society.

Build a model of a home to practice breaching? Obtain explosive devices? Nighttime stakeouts? Yeah, all innocent activities after weeks of discussion with others. Rrrriiiiggghttt.

Imbeciles.

From what I've read on the case, the FBI didn't get involved until AFTER a military veteran found out what the group was plotting and agreed to turn whistleblower. There were details that some of the militia guys weren't just sitting around talking smack, they were actually making plans and stockpiling weapons for it. Not all of the militia defendants were convicted, so the jury did make distinctions about who were dangerous and who wasn't.

The fact that this was a dry run of the January 6 insurrection is also at play here. Remember when they stormed the statehouse with their guns and demanded to be let in while covid measures were being debated?

And then there's the fly on the inside, the insider: the Oregon state legislator who let the mob in the side-door at the Oregon state capitol. As I was calling for them to be fire-hosed as I was back in the day. They kicked him out of government but otherwise was never held accountable.

[I've written about his daughter, it's personal, very personal, but out of context to the discussion at hand]
