The Feebs want the ISPs to keep records, for two years, of what sites all of their users visit on the Internet. State cops want the same thing. None of this should be of any surprise to anyone. The badged-up boyos always want everything on everyone. "If you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear" has been the motto of cops everywhere in the world in every form of political system that has ever existed, from your local cop shop to the East German Stasi.
The NSA is moving ahead with plans to collect and store every bit of electronic communication that is made anywhere on the planet, from your local phone calls on up.
There are probably off-shore services that you can use which would shield your web activity from your local ISP. Maybe it is time to consider doing just that. Of course the Feebs will know what you are doing, you have to pay that service somehow, and the boys and girls in the Jedgar Building at 935 Pennsylvania Ave. NW will probably be interested in you for just subscribing to such a service.

Of course, if you were the NSA and wanted to know how to identify the things people wanted to keep secret, you'd set up an Anonymiser website facade, mask the IPs and watch what people do there. How does one know?
If you have any of the providers for DSL or FIOS you have the problem that your in their address pool and that localizes you regardless of the system in use address.
If you encrypt they will use their big machine to crack it. That means passwords and other personal info are at risk. We can trust the government to not steal from us.. right!
We are an inch away from the Peoples Republic of the United States.
The PRUS will require everyone to have identification and technology will make it easy and convenient it will only take a moment to have your ID chip (like you dog or cat has) implanted. This will insure the least amount of disruption and need to produce ID.
Of course the central data base and widespread networks of scanners will be touted as a means to make crime impossible as there will uninterrupted tracking of everyones location.
What they will say just before the thought crimes bill is enacted.
CRIME PREVENTION. After all only you can prevent crime.
Remember only criminals will not auto ID.
It rarely happens all at once it's a gradual slide to total control.
Aren't you glad that only science fiction.. for the moment.
Eck!
Heinlein warned us about this. He said by the time a civilization requires you to have ID, it's too late and time to leave. In his stories, that was possible.
In our society, our only future defense will be not to have powerful enemies. Just be boring.
I just hope I don't live to see the political argument of whether or not our implantable chips should have the capability of remote tasing or execution.
They can collect all they want on me. The idiots have no idea what to do with it.
When they require ID chips, a lot of people are going to have a very bad day.
And that is all I shall say on the topic.
I just linked to this post. You may want to check it out at

It's a relatively new blog about long distance running, politics, and other stuff. Naturally as a start-up I am looking for increased traffic & readership, so if you like what you see, a link and/or atta-boy would be greatly appreciated.
I've linked to you awhile now and hop over several times a week.
Gary,
I have you blogrolled, as well.
