I've had to unbrick a proto product that has embedded hardware as a result of inattentive engineers.
A .45 auto works well for permanent bricking stuff too.

fiPhones are famous for getting bricked. Since there's no removable battery to remove power from them once they crash, the only way to get an iPhone unbricked is to take it back to the Apple Store. Either that, or just wait until the battery runs down, but that generally ruins the battery so ...
Just another joy of being an iFool, sigh. If only someone else would bring out a smartphone that worked as well as an iPhone :(.
