Caturday; The News is Bad

Jake has been diagnosed with bladder cancer.

This is him, lying against my leg, a few minutes ago.

He's purring away. I'm a wreck.

His last day is Friday.

Unless war breaks out, don't expect much from this blog for awhile.

You know, he knows. Cuddle until it's time. If he wants it. Such a beautiful cat.

Being a cat guy who has lost a number of feline buddies over the years, I feel your pain.

Jake is such a handsome lad. I really feel for you both.

Godspeed Jake, we'll see you on the other side.

Thoughts and prayers...

Damn it, it's never fair. Such sad news, and yet such great memories will always remain. Anything close to 15-20 years is a hell of a testament to a dedicated, caring, observant and smart owner...you've gone above and beyond "normal"!

My thoughts and prayers go out to you. Both of you.

It takes courage .

Be strong.

Weep, for tears are the pain leaving

Remember.

Again, I am so sorry for you.

I have trod that path. It hurts. Badly.

While no two are the same, many of us know your pain.

So sorry for your loss. Two weeks ago I had to put my 17 year old cat down. Even when it is the right thing to do, it still hurts like hell.

Like I told my friend Sara last month when her beloved Charlie Murphy went down: As cat lives go, he had a very good one, and you did that for him. May not make you feel much better right now, but it is the truth.

So very sorry. I just put my 17 year old dear friend to rest last Wednesday. Pain is unbearable and breaks my heart for anyone going through this. Please know folks are here for you. Shannon

Having trod that path six months ago with Mencken, and with TMF having been diagnosed with a tumor a couple of weeks ago, I feel for you. Jake is a dignified gentleman and it is only fitting that he go with as much dignity as we can muster for him.

recently lost two to tumors. another one 18 years old, our daughter's firstborn cat, has a tumor growing in her lower left jaw. she doesn't seem to be in pain and is taking an antibiotic so that no infection enters the open wound on her jaw.
we are praying for healing.
they all die do relatively young and cancer seems to be the main evil.
know how you feel.
may Jake fall asleep without pain while gazing up at you til the last earthly second.

I'm so sorry for you. I had to escort three of my buddies to the Rainbow Bridge over the years. Give him as many snuggles as you can.

So very sorry to hear this. Jake's caturday feature made me realize what great friends cats can be and to bring a new cat into the house. This is tough, you helped him to have a long happy and good life. You did well by him.

So sorry to hear this. Jake is a special cat, and I always looked forward to the picture on Saturday mornings.

My condolences.

I've known Jake for many years. You brought him in and gave him a good home.
He was safe. You made sure he was healthy and made it possible for him to age
gracefully. He is a good guy and I'll miss him.

Fair well jake.

Sorry to hear about this. Losing a companion to cancer is an awful thing. Hang in there.

Thanks, everyone.

The vet said that he has "transitional cell cancer". That turns out to be a specific type of cancer that hits the bladder and urinary tract.

Last night was rough, I didn't get a lot of sleep. I kept waking up every time he moved on or off the bed, mostly to use the litter box. I'd pet him when he came back.

Even though my heart is breaking, I am at peace. I'm doing what is best for Jake and that's all she wrote.

Jake has had a fabulous home and you should take comfort in knowing what a wonderful life you enabled him to live. It is hard to think about that now, but don't forget it. I'm so sorry.

We lost our two in January. One to FIV, the other to grief, for all we can tell.

Knowing it's coming is surely worse. Have fun with him while he can!
