sorry, bad link in last post....some sort of shield bug. I was trying to link to a google image page of shield bugs, but just do a google image search of them and you'll see many fine examples. Leaf eaters, for the most part, I believe.

Could be a stink bug as Lockwood suggests, but looks more like a squash bug to me.
Could be a stink bug, but I agree with Mule Breath. I've done battle with squash bugs for a few years now in the garden. That looks like a mature one.
