I firmly believe that the Republican party completely lacks humanity and concern for those who are not well off. That is why they are holding the long-term unemployed as hostages in order to get tax cuts for not just people who have a million dollars, but for people whose income is above a million dollars a year.
Which is pretty ironic, considering that 99.44% of Republican politicians profess to be adherents of a religion that was founded by a man who concerned himself with the welfare of the poor and the lower economic strata of his time, a man didn't have much truck with the rich and the powerful, a man who when he sufficiently irritated the rich, they had him killed.
It's funny that the Republicans say "raising taxes on the rich will kill small business." For that is a huge lie.
I've been involved in small businesses, both as an attorney and as a part owner. I've never seen a small businessman that took out that kind of money, each year, as pure income. Some of the businesses had pretty decent gross sales and since the owners ran the businesses as S-corporations or limited liability companies, the first line in the tax return, gross income, was impressive. But then the deductions started for costs: Costs of goods, wages, business rent, insurance, equipment, and so on. By the time that was all taken into account, the owner of the business might even still be operating at a loss or was making a modest income.
Some of them made a decent living. None made a million dollars a year.
When the Republicans claim that not continuing the Bush tax cuts on those making a million or more will hurt small business, that is one whopping motherfucking lie.
But the Democrats and President Obama will cave into the Republicans. That is as certain as a sunrise.

When the Republican/Teabagger overlords get their Bush Billionaire Bonus, we should all ask Obama not to run 2012 so we can get a real Democrat on the ballot. That is if Karl Rove will let him step aside.
There are two kinds of small businesses. There are ones most people think of where there are two guys working in a shop of some sort, and there is the government's definition, which is any company with less than 500 employees. For the rich, little companies, companies with a dozen employees, fall into the same category as the homeless.
