Legal Bribery

Big donors are demanding that candidates listen to them and take their "suggestions" to heart.

Seems to me that "here's money, do what I want" is skating on very thin ice as far as the definition of bribery goes. But since the Federal Election Commission is more toothless than my cat, don't expect them to do anything more than watch porn and eat lunch. I'd be very surprised if those clowns do anything more than come into work at 10, drink coffee, surf the Internet, and then knock off for the day at 11:30.

It should be clear to all by now that the politicians serve the oligarchs. The only reason they listen to the rest of us is that they have to stand for election from time to time. The 99.9% get lip service and promises of hand-jobs. The 0.1% get what they pay for.

Never mind that...are they hiring?

Sorry, Comrade Misfit, but you're wrong, dead wrong. "Here's the money, do what I want" only USED to be bribery.Today it's speech, according to the Supreme Court in Citizens United.

And if the politician actually does what the money man wants? Well, that's not corruption. That's the natural result of effective speech.

Study up. Bribery and corruption are only for the Little People, like when the deli owner gives the health inspector ten bucks not to notice the mouse droppings under the refrigerator. Paying half a mil not to notice that the effluent flowing into the river is poisoning the water supply is a campaign contribution, and therefore protected speech.

Any questions?

Yours very crankily,
