Your Sunday Morning Jet Noise

Those baby Lears weren't quiet.

Nor STOL. But they got to FL410 pretty quickly, and practically owned that altitude for quite a while. We didn't get too concerned about correct altitude for direction of flight at 410 until other bizjets started to proliferate.

They were noisy and fast! :-) Bill Lear opened a brand new world with those!

Back 20 years ago, the noise champs at BDR were a Lear 24 (N400EP), and a BAC-111 owned by Calumet Farms (yeah, the horsie guys). Either one, on departure, caused conversations to be suspended.

Not particularly fast. Better than a Slowtation, but they were about 440 TAS, same as FFJs, HS25s, L329s, and G2s, but not as fast as DC-9s. Trijets, 8s, 7-0s, and Convairs were all at 490-500 (in the days before the fuel crunch).
