Couldn't agree more. I'd rate him right up there with John Edwards as 'shop-soiled goods' and a political liability to their respective parties.
As far as I'm concerned, it's long gone time to discard all the candidates currently in the works, and look for fresh blood, on both sides of the political aisle. No more 'machine politicians', no more tax-and-spend liberals, no more Bible-and-bullets conservatives. Then we might get somewhere.
Not to worry about Newticles, he is only in it for the money and the attention is nice, too. If the comments on Mat Bai's fluff piece in the NYT are any indicator. no one wants Newter.
Peter, the problem is that voters keep voting for the most venal politician -- the one who accepts the most bribe money (err, "campaign contributions") and thus can run the glossiest campaign ads depicting his opponent as a rapist murderer Communist terrorist sympathizer -- rather than the best candidate. Every single one of the assholes in Congress got voted there by the majority of voters in their district. We have the voters we have, not the voters we wish we had :(.
Montag, yeah, pretty much my thought too. But don't underestimate the power of IOKIYR. What do you bet that Newtie's marital infidelities will be as much an issue with the Republican base as Rush Limpdick's marital infidelities? Yeah, I thought so.

If ya want a laugh, go take a peek at the comments at my place.
Someone claiming to be Newt stopped by.....
Of course, I welcomed him with both arms.
