Yes, we are about to enter the second decade of the 21st Century, not the 17th Century. Except in places like Saudi Arabia.

What do you expect? They don't let women drive or go anywhere unescorted, no churches of any kind are allowed to be built...their laws are the most theocratically-based, draconian nightmares imaginable. The entire region is trapped in the Dark Ages.
If a religion/culture can start their calendar from the time of their Maximum Prophet, ie Hebrew year 5770, Xtian year 2010, Muslim Year 1491, then Islam should just be transitioning from the Dark Ages. As we know from history, this does not apply equally to all locations. Also, as the Xtian experience shows, various locales may be subject to relapse, q.v. United States of America.
