Gunmakers: Just Say No to the California Cops

The pseudo-Republican, Arnold Schwartzenegger, signed a bil requiring that all semi-automatic handguns sold or "microstamping" of cartridge casings.

That this is stupid beyond description only requires knowledge of this fact: The barrels and slides of semi-automatic firearms are interchangable.

Only the frame, which typically does not touch the cartridge case, is legally the "firearm." You can buy all of the parts other than the frame. You can swap all of the parts around between different guns. Hell, if you were really interested in screwing up a crime scene, you could go to a public pistol range, pick some fired brass in your caliber off the floor and salt the crime scene.

But since rationality never gets you anywhere when dealing with the gun-banners, here is my proposal:

All firearms manufacturers should follow the lead of the Barrett Firearms Company and just refuse to sell semi-automatic firearms to or service the guns of California law enforcement agencies. Back when California banned .50 caliber rifles, Barrett, which is the leading maker of such rifles, announced that they would no longer sell rifles, parts or provide service to California law enforcement agencies. Their policy is announced in every advertisement they run in the gun press.

Just say no to California. Let them go back to carrying .38 revolvers.
