It involves forcing Uighurs to confess to made-up offenses and then convicting them at sham trials. The detainees get to pick from a menu of seventy offenses to be charged with. One of them is "quitting smoking".

It's pretty horrible stuff, and you should read the article. Because of China's economic power, most of the world, including the Islamic world, stays silent.
