More than a dozen Chicago police officers and supervisors were captured on video “lounging” inside a congressional campaign office and even appeared to be making popcorn and brewing coffee as people vandalized and stole from nearby businesses while protests and unrest spread across the city, a visibly angry Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Thursday.Maybe they figured there wouldn't be any kids lying in the street that they could shoot.

Bad acting security troops can't seem to remember they are wearing a camera and every civilian has one too.
Even when they should know or at least suspect camera surveillance they still act like louts in this case, or like vandals or thugs when they shove old men, slash tires or shoot the wheelchair bound in the face with rubber bullets. They just can't stop themselves, even at the cost of their very cushy, very safe jobs with pensions that are unmatched.
It may be a small thing but changing the name to Police Service would be a good 1st step.
From what I'm reading, the officers were assigned to Bobby Rush's office and were let in by a staffer. It is Chicago after all so waiting until the full story is out, which may take days, is needed. Very likely those officers were pulled off the line to have a presence in his office to prevent further destruction--something that most folks didn't have access to. Considering the twelve hour days during the rioting, often with no break whatsoever, anyone on such a detail would try to rest while they could.
That said, anyone who thinks that, in the main, a cop's job in Chicago is cushy and safe, is not aware of the true situation in Chicago. The stratification between the 'merits' and the 'earned their position' is quite stark.
Right, I'm painting with a broad brush. The average police officer's occupational hazard though, is low. Try fishing and farming.

The questionable 'optics' here pale in comparison to some we've seen.
Could be that they were set up. Rush has a history of skewing news and it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. Otherwise the video would not exist or would be ignored like the video that must exist of the office being broken into earlier. It is starting to come to the attention of the news that the officers were ordered there, were let in and probably were offered the hospitality of the place.
Gee, he made the officers neglect their duty. Is that the story now, B?
