Rough Gun Smithing

One of the things that I dislike about some pistol magazines are the "toes" at the bottom of them. For weapons larger than a PPK, they seem to me to be both superfluous and worse, the add to the chance of the pistol "printing", or showing under clothing.

This is a .45 H&K USP Compact.* As you can see, the magazine has a toe on it. I don't have small hands, yet my gun hand never touches the turned-out portion. Under clothing, though, that toe adds to the visibility. Not only can I see it, but because I can see it, I figure that everyone else can. And so, the pistol would tend to become a safe-queen.

Unlike a PPK, that toe is rubber. So I took a utility knife to it and this is the result:

You might not think that removing that little bit of rubber makes a big difference, but it really does.

What I need to do now is take some medium-grit sandpaper and smooth out the knife cuts to make it look better.
