Let's call it for what it is: The Republican Party in 2008 is little more than a collection of racist cranks. Even in this clip:
the racism is on full display. Note what McCain is implying in his answer to that hateful woman: If you are an Arab, you are not a decent family man. If you are an Arab, you cannot be a citizen.
I've not heard any proof that McCain is a racist, other than things such as how he opposed making Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday a Federal holiday and how he has referred to Asians as "gooks." Or this.
Whether McCain, or for that matter, Sarah Palin is a racist is not the point. What is the point is that the GOP is sending a clear signal: If you are not a white person, if you are not Christian, you are not welcome within the ranks of the GOP. One of the two political parties in this country now might as well be run by David Duke.
If the racism of the McCain campaign and its supporters does not bother you, you might ask why that is so. For I feel that the racist campaign of John McCain is deeply troubling and utterly offensive.
