A Collision at Sea Can Ruin Your Entire Day

Thucydides probably never wrote that line, but it is indeed true.
A Russian spy ship has sunk off the Turkish coast after being breached in a collision with a freighter, with all its crew rescued, the Turkish coastal authority says.

Hummmm, the reported sinking location is in Turkish Territorial Zone, but outside the 12 mile limit (about 40 km from shore). So, does Putin:

1) Drop a sub on top of the site till a salvage boat arrives. (Limited Turkish protests, reasonable ability to monitor activity around the wreck)

2) Put some ships out there. (More Turkish protests and more traffic in the area, harder to monitor the wreck)

3) Hang back and see what the U.S. will do. (Risky, but nice potential for embarrassing Donnie)

4) Suck up to Turkey to keep U.S. divers away. (Interesting anti-NATO and EU play)

What does Donnie do:

1) Beat his chest and tweet he's ordering a carrier to the site. (Cue much Naval head bashing)

2) Try to sneak a team in to inspect the wreck and salvage intelligence. (Very difficult, especially that close to Russian ports)

3) Say nothing, do nothing.

4) Ask why the Navy can't ram the spy boat off the U.S. coast.

The cargo vessel that collided with it was carrying sheep - it was sunk by a ewe boat.

I doubt the wreck contains anything we really want to see. Photos, ELINT recordings, low level coding stuff maybe.

3383, equipment is always valuable...it lets you know what and how.
