Slow Bangity
I shot a 3-gun match this morning. It was a local club match and the course of fire probably doesn't comport with most other ones. Minimum of 10 shots with a handgun, 4 with a shotgun, and 8 with a rifle: Any caliber, any sights.
My time was slow, probably because this was my rifle:
(At least I had stripper clips.)

Big Sweetie, that's an M-1 en bloc clip. A stripper clip is used to load ammunition into a magazine. You can see a shooter using one to lad a SLME here.
Also, Big Sweetie, the M-1 enbloc clip has a potential flaw that the stripper clip avoids. The en bloc clip from an M-1 is ejected after the last round is fired, with an audible ping. During WWII, the Army tested various alternate enbloc clip materials in order to reduce this sound, as reports had been received that German and Japanese troops could hear the ping to know when the GI's were reloading. Now, after the war, this was discounted, but the Army still worked to quieten the ejection noise of the M-1.
For ease of distinction, the enbloc clip is like a full-moon clip for a revolver and the stripper clip is more like a speed loader.
