I think I would be amiss if I did not point out that if a Republican had done the things that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is alleged to have been involved in, including the pressure by the NY Fed to AIG to not be completely forthright (a five-dollar term for "lie") in its filing to the SEC, then many of the same characters who are supporting him would be baying for his head.
But it's all inside-baseball as far as the Villagers in DC are concerned. Which is why Republicans are claiming that Harry Reid's comments about Obama (which were reportedly made on deep background) are worse than Trent Lott's comments about Strom Thurmond, when Lott publicly said that the country would have been better off if Thurmond, then an avowed segregationist, had been elected president in 1948. All of which ignores that the de facto leader of the GOP, a certain radio blowhard, has let loose no shortage of racially bigoted broadsides with nary a peep out of the same people in the GOP who are now so upset at Reid.
