If you want a very short story that tells, in stark simplicity, why African-Americans are angry, read this one.
Or, if you want the full impact, listen to it.
It won't take you very long.

About 1959 I sat down to lunch in an Atlanta restaurant, and a woman came in with a little girl, maybe 6, and sat at the next table. They were neatly dressed, with white gloves -- women shopped that way in that time. A black waiter delivered their menus and water, and when he left the little girl said "Mama, Ah don't like those nigras waitin' on us."
Mama smiled and said "Why, HUH-nee! That's what they-ah FOW-ah!"
