Yeah, Like They Really Care

The automakers lost a case in Federal court that sought to stop states from adopting stricter pollution standards.

This quote from the New York Times was almost funny:

In a statement posted on the Web site of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, which brought the lawsuit, Dave McCurdy, the group’s president, said an appeal was being considered.

Mr. McCurdy also said, “The alliance remains committed to working with policy makers to make certain that the E.P.A.’s judgment is based on credible, sound scientific data as to what policies truly impact California, its citizens and global climate concerns.”

Like they care about any of that.

Detroit doesn't care about that. They don't care about any of that. Detroit has fought every environmental standard ever adopted. Hell, they have fought every safety standard ever adopted. Seat belts. Air bags. Unleaded fuel. Collision standards. Fuel economy. Everything. And when safety or environmental advancements get rammed down Detroit's throat, they then start telling everybody how it was their idea.

By the way, when a company or industry starts talking about "credible, sound scientific data," that means: "We have our science whores and we will obfuscate and stall this until everyone who is less stubborn than George W. Bush thinks we are wrong."

Just like the tobacco industry.

Just like the oil, gas and coal industries.
