A battalion of White House aides entered the Oval Office together to present a unified front after the bombshell. So the DoJ appointed a special prosecutor without Jeff Sessions notifying the President beforehand?
The Justice Department had appointed a special prosecutor to oversee the probe into Russia's alleged involvement in the 2016 presidential election, White House counsel Don McGahn had just told President* Donald Trump. Many of Trump’s top aides gathered with the president Wednesday evening just after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein signed the order and called McGahn — and just before the news exploded publicly in Washington.
Interesting.
One way to look at it is that Rosenstein just paid Trump back for Trump's attempt to place the responsibility for firing Comey on Rosenstein.
Or the Pros From Dover want to settle this question the right way, instead of allowing Trump to try and tweet-storm his way out of it.
Either way, smart members of the White House staff who may have been even tangentially involved with any of this would be wise to have legal counsel on tap before the subpoenas start flying.

Subpoenas are already flying for Flynn and Manafort, and appear to mostly be concerned with the movement of money.

Yes, but this is going to go wider. The question of "what did you know and when did you know it" is going to be asked, a lot. And the people doing the asking will be Federal agents; lying to them gets the fibber a felony indictment.
Anyone who talks to those guys with their lawyer present is a fool.
Off Topic, but ASM826 and I will talk this weekend about what a good home network storage device recommendation to make
CM, surely you mean WITHOUT a lawyer, right?
Borepatch, I'll be looking for that discussion. I'll happily link to it, as well.
Keaaukane, yeah, isn't that what I said? They need to have a lawyer, like, now.
Technical question(s), Comrade. When the Fed investigator bangs on the door, do you have a "right" to have your lawyer present? Are any of the other Miranda Rights valid? Since there's no arrest, I was wondering. Also, is your statement admissible if you asked to speak to a lawyer but were refused?
Probably not, but you also don't have to talk to them. The Feds know that people above the level of a street thug will have lawyers.
Don't worry, FBI Director Joe Lieberman will make sure that Mueller gets no resources or cooperation from the FBI. We still have another 7 years of this shit show before it's over. :(.
It's gonna be interesting to see what Comey says about the story that he requested more resources from DoJ shortly before his firing. DoJ has emphatically denied it, and McCabe did so under oath.

Rumors out that the White House is looking to prevent Mueller from being able to mvestigate Manafort and Kushner under an ethics rule. Since his law firm represented them, he can't investigate them within a year of leaving the firm (maybe 2. If Donnie's order holds up). Congress can waive it, but...are Ryan, McConnell and Rod maybe playing a better game of chess than we thought?
Aaaaand here it is. The post has grown (it will now be 3 parts), but part 1 is on-line:
