The machinery, like most modern farm machinery, is computer-operated. John Deere bricked them.

John Deere also does this to there legitimate customers. The small farmer does not have the time or money to wait for a JDeere house call.
Having your farm equipment (or anything else you bought) turn into a brick is most definitely a bug and not a feature.
