Walmart Inc said on Wednesday it shifted firearms and ammunition out of sales floors of some U.S. stores amid nationwide protests over the death of an unarmed black man at the hands of police last week.Color me unimpressed. The last time that I looked at a gun case in Walmart, other than a couple of shotguns, they had nothing that was even remotely usable for riot defense.

The ammo is another matter, and probably a reasonably responsible move.
Quite right. No self respecting gun owner I know ever bought at Walmart. Or Dicks for that matter.
I got my first two guns from Montgomery Ward. A lot has changed since then.

CP88, you can’t buy handgun or AR/AK ammo there.
My informant tells me gun stores in Sacramento are out of 9mm, .38 special, 20ga. ammo. Said the store he was in seeking ammo had sold out all the popular Glocks and 9mm pistols and were selling novice gun buyers full 1911 .45acp colts instead. One after the other, three in line just ahead of him.
Also said in California a new law says if you got gun owner certified before 2012 you need some ammo buying red tape these days. First I've heard.
He's loaning a niece his P-38 and could not get 9mm, not even FMJ. So I gave him a box. Fifty rounds should get her oriented and familiar with it anyway.
I suggested a revolver would be simpler for her. He said he needed the revolver and she'll take what I give her.
Anyway, little heavy maybe but good 9mm cartridge, nice double action trigger. Stone realible. Safer than a Glock. More rounds than a Smith revolver.
Really, I didn’t know they pulled the .45, 9mm, .38, .38SP, .32 and .22LR from WallyWorld...but I haven’t shopped there in the gun section in a decade plus.
CP88, of what you listed, they only sell .22LR.
Tod, a 1911’s not my choice for a novice, not without good instruction. But needs must. I saw a 5 foot nothing, 110 pound woman, who had not shot a gun before, shoot expert with a .45.
I've worked at a Wal-Mart near Baltimore for five years. Perhaps because of our location, we've never had firearms or ammunition of any kind, not even paintball or pellet guns. We did carry small co2 cartridges for a while, but for over four years, not even that.
To give Wally's their due, I bought my most favorite, a K66, at a Walmart in another town. Back in about 1998. That pistol shoots better and has the best trigger out of 3 other Smith's that I have owned.
In this county, they don't carry firearms and their ammo selection looks like a bunch of stuff at a flea market.
Sad to see but not too amazing in corporate America.
