Used Computers

I opted to stay with Win 7 on the used T42 that I picked up.

There was an Excel file that held account numbers, user names and passwords for bank accounts, credit cards, online ordering, email, and so on. That's deleted.

I lost track of the number of Windows updates that had to be installed. Installing the first round led to others. I had a list of the Win 10 ones and avoided those. GWX Control Panel and Never 10 are up and running.

The first order of business, though, was installing antivirus and malware scanners and running them. The machine came up clean.

My guess is that it had been sitting, unused, for close to three years. Somebody probably got it cheap from their job and then didn't use it.

Anyway, it's now ready to begin installing what I need on it to function. Which will include passwords for booting and windows.

Don't forget Veracrypt for solid, pre-boot full-disk encryption!
