Besides the obvious brain-rattling of a concussion, the blast pressure wave sets up oscillating pressure waves in the blood system, which transfers kinetic energy throughout the body, including the brain.
We, as a nation, have a very large debt to pay to these men and women. It will likely not be paid in full in our lifetimes.
