He hired Roy Cohn as his lawyer.
Cohn was a walking personification of a sleazeball shyster. He was the sort of fixer for rich crypto-criminals that nobody who was even remotely honest or ethical would ever need. He defrauded elderly clients, acts that finally got his scummy ass disbarred.
That tells me that FOFF always operated a criminal enterprise. It just took 50 years to finally catch his ass.
Still, there is something delicious about a political party that has prided itself for decades on being the "party of law and order" hitching its star to a convicted felon.

Even Roy Cohn didn't like Fergus, said he "pisses ice water."

How many of the COFF lawyers are either disbarred or
laughing stock?
Then we have the people from his campaign...
What the felon touches either becomes a felon or worse
their career end up destroyed.
As time progressed and indictments accumulated it seemed
more likely to end up as it has.
Eck!
Trump sure has had his share of lawyers in a bizarrely litigious existence. And Trump being what he is--worse is better. As for me, this case felt like a lock because if there are two things I know Trump loves, it's adultery and white-collar fraud. They were bound to spectacularly collide.

The Trump Method (TM) of picking lawyers is for men, they have to be as big an asshole as he is. For women, it's "hey, nice tits, you remind me of my daughter" How he ever went this far without a conviction is well beyond my reckoning.
