Russia to Finland and Sweden: "Nice Countries You Have There. Pity if Something Happened to Them."

Amid the ongoing Russian military operations in Ukraine, the country’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday that Moscow will have to respond if Sweden and Finland become NATO members.

“All OSCE member states in their national capacity, including Finland and Sweden, have reaffirmed the principle that the security of one country cannot be built at the expense of the security of others.

Obviously, the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, which is primarily a military alliance as you well understand, would have serious military and political consequences, which would require our country to make response steps,” Zakharova told a briefing
.

It would seem that one option for them is to join, now, while the Russians are tied up in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ol' Tucker, one of Putin's most prominent American backers, has apparently figured out that backing a dictator with delusions of empire is not a good idea.

In spite of Carleson's earlier parrotting of Russian propaganda, together with Trump and his fellow-travelers' full-throated approval of Putin, Americans are not buying it. Even though some teachers appear to be pushing pro-Russian propaganda: One open question: How will the West handle a million or more Ukranian refugees? It's not just the fighting that's on a scale that hasn't been seen in Europe since V-E Day, it will be the sheer number of displaced persons. Millions of people don't flee an army that is coming in to liberate them.

Funny how you blame the Right, yet none of this happened when Trump was in office,
And you conveniently fail to remember that Biden has done so much to encourage Putin.
If one were to look at things logically, you'd see that instead of the Right being the lapdog of Putin, it is more likely Biden and friends. Biden has done nearly everything he could to strengthen Russia and Putin, to add to the stranglehold he has on Europe's energy, to discourage NATO from arming (leaving it a paper tiger to counter Russian aggression) to weakening our Military leadership,,,
If one were rational (you aren't) about it, you'd get over the accusations-without-foundation (and outright lies that you fell for) that the Left has made about Trump and Putin and apply the same standards of judgement to Biden and Putin. But you can't, because to do so would force you to admit that you were wrong, and that you apply double standards to Left and Right.

I await your shrill denial.

Comrade Misfit said...

You are skating the edge with your "shrill denial" wordage. I'm not surprised that you defend Trump.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was Trump who withheld $400 million in military aid to Trump because he wanted the Ukrainians to fabricate dirt on the Bidens. Your Orange Overlord's hands are not clean.

What are the facts about Trump’s call to Ukraine's President

In the summary, Zelensky asks Trump for an increase in military aid — specifically, to purchase more Javelin anti-tank missiles, useful in Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russian-backed separatists in its east.

Trump responds by saying, “I would like you to do us a favor though.”

The favor turns out to be about two investigations Trump would like Ukraine to conduct: one about a bizarre and unfounded theory about Ukrainian possession of a Democratic email server, the other about the Biden family’s allegedly corrupt dealings with a Ukrainian prosecutor.

We previously knew that the president had asked Ukraine to investigate the Bidens because both the president and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, admitted it. We now know that he also asked Ukraine to investigate the Democratic Party and that he connected it to the question of military aid in their conversation.

These are the facts, B. To paraphrase Groucho Marx, if you don’t like those, I’m sure you can find some that suit you at Fox News or another RW news outlet.

DTWND said...

What, exactly, has Biden done to ‘strengthen’ Russia?

Did he invite “Russia, if you’re listening, could you find missing emails?” And thereby okay Russian interference in our elections?

Did Biden initiate quid pro quo by saying: “…okay, but first, could you do something for me?” Which resulted in the Ukraine government not receiving US aid?

Did Biden meet with Russian ambassadors in the White House with no others present while he he provided who-knows-what intelligence to them?

Did Joe meet with Putin, without a stenographer fro take notes, and emerge from that meeting and claim that he was sure Putin was telling the truth about no election interference?

Has Joe gone through several chiefs-of-staff whose integrity was impugned from questionable dealings with Russian oligarchs and agents?

Please enlighten me with the factual details that you have on your assertions, B. A rational individual such as yourself should have no problem citing sources. And I’m sure you, yourself, would never resort to the double standards that we all know you abhor.

B, this topic came up on another blog, and someone asked me what Fergus had done to appease Putin (because I said that Putin didn't start the war in Ukraine during Fergus' term because it would have attenuated the benefits he was receiving from having his goddamn puppet running his largest and most powerful geopolitical rival)
This was my response:
The gutting of the state department was one of the larger plums.
Then there was the time he gave classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in the fucking oval office.
In August 2017, the Russian government expelled 755 people from the American embassy and consulate staff. Trump responded by “thanking” Putin and saying he “greatly appreciated” the striking diplomatic move.
Then there was that bullshit in Helsinki where Fergus dissed our intelligence services in his mad scramble to suck Putin's dick.
And he did lift some sanctions in 2018 on a goddamn oligarch who was up to his eyeballs in the Russian push to get him elected in the first place.
During his re-election campaign, Trump also prepared to withdraw U.S. troops from Germany, which also happened to be in line with Moscow’s wishes.
So either Fergus thinks that Putin's dick tastes like Belgian chocolate and he will never pass up an opportunity to suck on that puppy, or he had a definite policy of giving Putin and Russia everything they want any time he could.
-
Biden has strengthened the alliances that Fergus weakened, and brought most of the democracies in the world together in opposition to Putin's aggression, which he is backstopping with threats of nuclear weapons. NATO is far stronger unified than it was under Fergus' constant derision. Chest thumping bluster might look cool in a movie, but as a foreign policy, it is fully retarded.

During the Obama administration Fox Spews and those of similar inclination were singing the praises of Putin because he was a strong leader unlike Obama who actually had compassion for his fellow human beings. It's obvious that tRump, who admires dictators, and his fellows are big fans of Putin. Putin plays the long game and wants to expand Russia and get the Soviet Union back but since he lost his puppet in the U.S. he knows it will not be as easy. Since he already had the takeover in the planing stages, he had to find other ways to meet his goal. Maybe he was hoping for a 9/11 type incident like Bush used as an excuse to attack Iraq as that was already planned. Both plans received plenty of Republican support.

Wow. Trumps not my dog. Neither is Biden. That's your guys internal problem (that bites the rest of us in the butt if you choose poorly).
It is very risky to put the welfare of your nation in the hands of blind faith in the power of the United States to come and rescue you from either your own folly, or your own misjudgments (how many nations can speak of this?).
The land mass within the designated borders of Ukraine is filled with different people groups. The largest being Ukraine. It is the neighborhood they live in. They have to get along, they have to find accommodation, or they have to fight. Expecting a 'big brother' figure to jump in and save your neck from across the sea is at best unwise and at worse foolish. And other than the ex-bloc nations who don't like the same player as you don't have the amassed strength to actually help you. The alliance you are looking at joining overall doesn't care about you, they want windmills and solar panels and have to purchase gas from either of two players, whoever offers them the best deal. France and Germany trade freely with Russia, and in a few weeks when this passes, will do so again. Pray for the people of Ukraine and Russia. They've chosen poorly.

We will welcome refugees. There will be people like "B" who will kick and scream. I will not lie, our blanket is a little worn, but it is still big enough to cover us all. We are in the process of making a new blanket, but it will take time.
Before you come to this country, you should know that there are a lot of people like "B" here. Even after 300 years, they are too stubborn to learn a little Spanish.
