The Phony Patriots of the Right

I've gotten a number of emails and seen a lot of blog entries since yesterday about the nutjob who appeared on Fox News and stated that he hoped that Osama bin Ladin would detonate a "major weapon" (a nuke) in an American city. Glenn Beck did not disagree with him.

I suspected that Jon Stewart would have something to say, so I held off:

Play a little thought game: Imagine that a liberal said "what we need is for a terrorist to attack the US." Then imagine just for how many years the various fascist bloviators at Fox News would be yammering about that. The conservative columnists would write about nothing else for months. Books would be written about how liberals are traitors (oh, wait, they already write them). The Drug-Addled FatBoy would be quivering in his chair as he yelled about that into his gold-plated microphone.

But let a conservative express a wish that the US sustain a devastating attack and the silence from the rest of the Right is deafening. Which proves, yet again, that the Right does not give a flying fuck about this country. The Right will do or hope for anything it thinks that will help it to advance its agenda. And if that means a few hundred thousand Americans die in a nuclear attack, then according to the Right, that is just peachy.
