Used to be in Eureka CA. they had an amateur day at the track once a month. For a helmet and 20 bucks, you could get a timed run on a semi-official track. That kept a lot of idiots off the streets. It wasn't drag races but they had those out on the sand spit known as the North Jetty. If racing has outlets, it can be held off the streets, for the safety of us all.

I wonder how these idiots drive on the streets that front their homes? 50-60 in the 25mph zone? Do we need more speed bumps? Maybe a bump on their head would be more instructive.
One of the main feeder roads near my house has gone from 45 to 30 with lots of speed signs and untended speed rate displays installed over the last 5 years. Many folks still drive at the old speed in complete disregard for the kids walking to school. And what's with blowing through 4 way stops? I see that occurring regularly too.
I'm with w3ski, "safety for all of us" by being respectful and responsible.
W3ski: Our motocross practice tracks were right next to the Samoa drag strip and also a ways up the road on the old Far West Motorcycle Club land. Or some of our practice tracks were there. They were the closest ones to Eureka, where we lived, so we could get an hour of practice in on weekdays sometimes.
Having lived in Oakland for 35 years, I found those "sideshows" annoying.

Motocross, that was the word I was looking for. Thanks for that.
