Trump Eyes Another Purge, Wants a Bigger Toady at DoJ

President* Donald Trump has spoken with advisers about firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, officials say, and launched a fresh Twitter tirade Tuesday against the man who was the first U.S. senator to endorse his candidacy.
The thing that has to be understood is that Trump views the DoJ as his private goons-- go after anyone that he wants and leaves alone anyone that he wants to be protected. The rule of law matters nothing to Trump and he has been grievously wounded because Sessions followed the law instead of protecting Trump.

I have little regard for Sessions. But firing Sessions because Sessions followed the law is nothing more than a slow-motion Saturday Night Massacre.

So what Republican politician and attorney is sufficiently venal and soulless to take the job and do Trump's bidding?

Ted Cruz.

During the campaign, Trump called Cruz "Lyin' Ted", insulted Cruz's wife and said that Cruz's father was involved in the assassination of President Kennedy. It would take a certain level of self-hatred and lack of self-regard to even be in the same room with a person who said that about oneself and one's family, let alone go to work for such a bozo.

But that's Cruz. Besides, he's up for re-election next year and maybe he plans to get out while the getting is good.

Then there is Rudy G. Now that scares me.

Excuse me, but didn't Trump swear an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States? Does that not apply anymore? Is there anyway we can get rid of this Bozo and keep the country intact?

It's not a sure bet that Cruz would get re-elected anyway. Joaquin Castro is outpolling him, and he only got elected by an electoral fluke to begin with: He weaseled his way into the runoff behind Dewhurst and won the runoff because of the ultra-low turnout. And in Texas, the Republican primary usually determines the outcome of the election, so he won a senate seat with 632,000 votes in a state of 27 million.
I don't know which Republican, if any, is running against him, but I would put my money on them before him or Castro. This is Texas we're talking about.

w3ski, Rudy has said, repeatedly, that Sessions did the right thing in recusing himself. That, to Trump, is a disqualifier. Also, Rudy has reportedly taken himself out of consideration. Which I translate into "the rats are leaving the sinking ship."

Dale, since when does Trump's work amount to anything? He has broken his promises, broken deals, stiffed contractors, hired illegal immigrant labor and refused to pay vendors. Trump's word is valueless. it's not worth the toilep paper it is written on.

If he had his way, he'd make the military swear personal allegiance to him.

And here y'all said that Sessions was gonna be Trump's toady....and yet, it looks like he is gonna get tossed because......He did what was right and legal. And is doing his job well. (and make no mistake, I disagree with him on several fronts).

Seems to me that y'all owe Mr. Sessions an apology for the things you said about him. You let your TDS get in the way of honest evaluations. Anyone associated with Trump Must be bad, right? So you trashed a good man.

'Course, I doubt you will step up and apologize.......

Sure B, that's how I saw Sessions initially. I still see him as a redneck, southern, good-ol-boy who would hang first and seek evidence later. But I will give him credit for trying to uphold the laws of the U.S., something I cannot say of Trump. So I apologize for first thinking he was a puppet of Trump.

From the outset, the administration has been one of outright lies (the largest crowd size ever, the most electoral votes of any Republican president, accomplishing more in the first 100 days than any other prez, won the popular vote, voter fraud, etc.); verbal two-steps (alternative facts, making a statement-clarifying the statement-correcting the statement-remaking a new statement); cover ups (no Russian contact, well some Russian contact, um lots of Russian contacts); disinformation and denials by spokespeople and Trump himself; and an overall display of ignorance and incompetence in how to run a nation.

Now, when will Republicans stop acting like ostriches with their heads in the sand and, to quote Spike Lee, Do The Right Thing? Stop blindly supporting everything this prez says and does and hold him to his oath of office. Hold him accountable for his actions and those of his cabinet. He was 'elected' to lead all of the US. How's that saying go? If you're going to lead, then lead. If you're going to follow, then follow. If you're not going to do either, then get the hell out of the way!

Ms. Fit, you are correct. His word means nothing. In the world I grew up in, if you say you're gonna do something, then you better do it. Your statements and actions (or inaction) demonstrate the type of person you are.

No, B, I most certainly do not owe Sessions an apology. He has been ramping up the war on drugs, which has not only had well over forty years of failure (and law pretty much a racist Nixonian thing to begin with). He has said that he intends to crack down on the states that are legalizing pot. He has instructed his prosecutors to go back to throwing nonviolent drug offenders into prison for decades. And he has gone back to the bad old days of civil forfeiture, which is a code-phrase for Theft by Cop.

Sessions does one thing that I agree with and I owe him an apology?

Not hardly, sir.

I don't apologize to a lawyer who acts to keep himself out of hot water. Enlightened self-interest in one case is not a sudden change which we must applaud. As for TDS, me thinks thou doth protest too much.
