Barely Interactive Post

You can either read about ICE allegedly dragging a woman with a brain tumor out of the hospital or you can read about when Ogunquit, Maine had a Renault LeCar as a marked police cruiser.

Frankly, the first story doesn't surprise me. If President* Trump ordered ICE to form death squads and begin summarily executing people, I have little doubt that they would cheerfully comply. Oh, he might have to "boil the frog" a little more to get them to that point, but it wouldn't take a lot of calories to get there.

There was a case in Haiti, many decades back, of Tonton Macoutes, Doc Duvalier's secret police, charging into an operating room where a patient lay open on the table and dragging off (or was it killing, I forget which) the surgeon performing the operation. So dragging a woman with a brain tumor out of a hospital has a ring of familiarity.

More and more, Donald Trump makes this a third world country.

I Want My Country Back. Damn the nazis and their tactics, that is not the America I was born into and taught about.
On the other hand "Le Cars". I worked as a mechanic in Eureka in the mid 80's and for some reason those things were popular. Sad because in the salt air they didn't actually last long at all. They only had 3 lug nuts on each wheel and just changing a tire would bust one off frequently. Now with the usa made cars you had 4 or 5 lug nuts and it wasn't a dire emergency if one broke. At the shop we would get customers come in one short, that said "don't even fix it". But with the "inexpensive" Le Car, break one, and you were stuck. How much did the company save by cutting one lug off each wheel by how many cars?

Oy, Le Cars, eh? Well, I drove one for a little bit...what a POC. How do you make a manual transmission car that has, in the Owner's Manual, a prohibition on push or bump starting?

Now, offer me a Deux Cheveau, and I'll take it!

w3ski: I know what you're saying about Eureka. I was born and raised there and worked for a body shop on Trinity Street for a few years in the early eighties. They did a brisk business from the (as my brother used to call it) body cancer from the salt air and proximity to the ocean. We mostly got Datsuns from McCrea's while I was there, but I sort of remember a Le Car or two.

Yea Doug. Eureka Rust. You were at the Body Shop about the time I got out of CR College and had a job at Fortuna Motors and then at Wards.
Fun times? If you got along with being paid pennies. Not that ever did much better in the County. They bragged about "cutting the Union out", back then.
That only meant you had the right to work for poverty wages and with a health plan we couldn't afford to use for deductibles.
Oakland huh? I just couldn't go back myself. I was born there.
