Torture Nation

Brutality, mistreatment and torture are the order of the day in the California penal system.

Some of the takes of mistreatment would seem to come straight out of a Soviet gulag.

What is especially sickening are the many apologists for torture who say, "but they're PRISONERS!" Uhm, I don't care if they're Osama bin Laden's right-hand man that enjoys pulling the legs off of frogs and small children, torture is wrong, regardless of who you're doing it to. Sadly, I suspect that 50%+ of Americans would disagree with that statement. We have become a nation of torturers, an embarrassment to all civilized nations... sad, really, how a nation that could once have been a beacon of civilization has become so degraded, vile, and venal...

More torture news:

The State of Virginia puts 10 prisoners in solitary confinement for 10+ years because their religion prohibits them from cutting their hair. Somehow I suspect that if the prison banned Bibles for the same reason they justify banning long hair ("people can hide weapons in them!"), that policy would get overturned rapidly. But non-Christians? Oh puh-leeze, they're not REALLY people, right? Right?!

Why should we treat prisoners as anything more than something stinky stuck to the bottom of my shoe?
Because it's the right thing to do?
Because if you are a Christian it's what Jesus taught? IOW it's morally right.
Because in the long run it works better to actually lessen crime?
Because it is possible to actually be better humans?
Could have stopped at number one.
Which is why a portion of this country will never get it. They don't care about what is right, better, human, or moral.
They are fearful, selfish, immature, bullying, children. Their moral development stopped at about age 7 or 8.
