Fidel Castro came to power 50 years ago. 47 years ago, President Kennedy placed an embargo on Cuba.
What good has that embargo done? Other than please a bunch of knee-jerk anti-communists from the Right and pacify the sometimes-terrorists of the anti-Castro Cubans in Florida, what has the embargo accomplished?
As far as I can see, not a fucking thing, other than make life harder for the Cuban people. The Castro regime is still there. It is not going anywhere. And even if it collapses, crediting the embargo for that would be laughable.
Insanity is continuing on with a failed policy. Continuing on with a failed policy because some voters in Florida would otherwise be pissed off is worse than insane, it is cynically corrupt.
The embargo needs to be lifted.
