Why Things Are Going to Get Worse

Tariff exemptions announced Friday on electronics like smartphones and laptops are only a temporary reprieve until the Trump administration develops a new tariff approach specific to the semiconductor industry, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Sunday.

Businesses like certainty and there is nothing about the FLOSS that is certain. It makes investing and planning almost impossible.

And that's why things are going to get bad.

There was a term used at IBM: FUD, fear, uncertainty and doubt. IBM was famous for FUDing customers. A competitor would bring out a new product/service that was really good and catch IBM flat-footed. So the IBM salesman would tell customers that IBM had something similar in the works, that was much, much better and they should wait for it. IBM was finally dragged into court on FUD and soundly thrashed/fined/consent decreed about it. Ah, for the days of law and order, when doing shit egregiously got your ass handed to you.

I've said before its all FUD and its deeper than the computer gap.
FLOSS is trying to be the hero by creating the disaster and then fixing it.
That come from his only I can fix...
Hell he can't even fix dice in a rigged game.

Not that I'm superstitious, or anything, but that augury was pretty clear.

Now it's a change in the auto tariffs. Counting on any consistency with Trump to run one's business or even one's personal life is like planning to bake an apple pie by following around an orchard's truck waiting for it to tip over and drop the necessary apples. Not to mention the truck from the flour mill.

When you say that "Businesses like certainty...", you are fighting the last war. This, like so many other things, has changed. What businessmen *like* is taking revenge against their employees and customers, whom they see only as thieves, and against the institutions whose only purpose, as far as they can see, has been preventing them from taking their revenge. There is no longer *any* rational decisionmaking going on in any business of any size. It is all emotional illness, front to back.
