If you've never seen the movie, surely you must be joking. Your cultural education has been seriously deficient. Go rent it.
1980 was a good year for film comedies. Airplane! was the #3 movie for domestic box office in that year. 9 to 5, another comedy, was #2. The runaway champ that year was The Empire Strikes Back, the high-water mark for Star Wars movies. (They descended rapidly into suckitude ever since.)

And per your Saturday post, it's been 40 years since Caddyshack. Looking back, 1980 was a lot better than I remember.
