Talks to stop the fighting in Ukraine resumed Friday, as another attempt to rescue civilians from the besieged port city of Mariupol broke down and Russia accused the Ukrainians of launching a cross-border helicopter attack on an oil depot.
The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region said the alleged airstrike by a pair of helicopter gunships caused multiple fires and injured two people. A Kremlin spokesman said the incident on Russia’s territory could undermine the negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives.
I suppose it's possible that two Ukrainian helicopters flew 30 km into Russia to attack an oil deopt. On the other hand, it could also be a Russian false-flag operation, designed for domestic consumption (like the claims before the invasion). At this point in the war, only an utter fool or a Putin-poodle takes the word of a Russian official at face value.
If the Ukrainians did do it, then that'll force the Russians to beef up their air defenses within Russia, which might divert resorces away for their invasion itself. The Russians are carping about the attack, which is like an abuser complaining because his victim fought back.
Meanwhile, the Russians continue committing war crimes.
