My Guess Was Half-Right

I guessed that Springfield Armory was going to bring back the Browning Hi-Power and that it would be an imported clone.

Yes to the gun, no about it being an imported clone.

That it doesn't have the Hi-Power's magazine safety means that the magazines will drop free and the trigger's probably a lot better than a standard Hi-Power. (They can't call it a "Hi-Power", as Browning/FN trademarked that.)

Brownell's pricing them at $680.

Color me "intrigued".

Me too. I might just have to try one out.

I wonder if the frames are of Turkish origin.

'Don't call it a classic' means don't call it a High Power, we'd get sued. Looks like my FEG clone with improvements: 2 more rounds, better safety lever. I paid $300 simoleons for mine though, new in the box, back when dinos roamed the earth (6k yrs ago).

The big thing, for me, is that the mag safety is gone. I am loathe to do that to a carry gun ("Defendant deliberately deactivated a safety mechanism"), but since it comes that way from the factory, all is good.

Yes, annoying but valuable safety device for recruits and barely trained civilians. But right, never remove a safety device for litigation reasons, even if you don't need it. Remember all laws are written by lawyers whose existence depends on lawsuits.
Plus, you can save that last cartridge for yourself when the tribesmen catch you, even if you lost the magazine. Bonus!

Tod, it’s OK to remove such things on range toys (target guns), but then they have to be relegated to inly that use.

I've own a couple of hi-powers, an Inglse and a nazi-proofed fnc. Great guns to shoot.
